Village Overview
Topcroft is a charming Norfolk village and civil parish in South Norfolk, positioned some 7 miles north‑west of Bungay and 14 miles south of Norwich. Encompassing about 7.8 km², it blends serene countryside with a rich heritage and friendly community .
Historical Roots
The name “Topcroft” means “Topi’s small enclosed field”. Its earliest record is in the Domesday Book (1085), where it’s listed as Topercroft/Topercropt. In more recent centuries, the village population peaked at 477 in 1851 before settling to around 265–268 residents now.
Heritage & Architecture

St Margaret’s Church: A striking round‑tower church, one of 124 in Norfolk. Its lower round stage dates to the early 14th Century, with octagonal upper stages and a brick chancel added in 1712. It enjoys Grade II* listing. Photograph by kind permission of David Ferre.
